Discover the best of Wilmington, NC! From Wrightsville Beach and historic downtown to top restaurants, bars, and family-friendly attractions —this guide covers where to stay, eat, and explore in Wilmington.

Why Visit Wilmington, North Carolina?

Wilmington, North Carolina is one of my favorite coastal destinations (outside of Charleston, of course). This charming riverfront city is filled with quaint shops, waterfront restaurants, vibrant bars, and most importantly, easy access to Wrightsville Beach. The Wilmington Riverwalk, which runs along the Cape Fear River, is a must-see for strolling, dining, or catching a sunset. Whether you’re planning a family vacation, a romantic weekend, or a quick getaway, Wilmington is the perfect spot.

Where to Stay in Wilmington, NC

When visiting, I recommend staying close to historic downtown Wilmington so you can easily walk (or take a quick Uber) to restaurants, shops, and the Riverwalk. If you want a beach-focused trip, stay closer to Wrightsville Beach.

  • Airbnb & Vacation Rentals: Downtown Wilmington has plenty of Airbnb options, from private rooms to entire condos. It’s a budget-friendly way to stay in the heart of the city.
  • Courtyard Marriott Downtown: I stayed here on one trip, and the location couldn’t have been better, just steps from shops and restaurants with a short drive to Wrightsville Beach. It’s not overly fancy, but practical and reliable.

Pro tip: Book early during summer months since hotels and rentals in Wilmington sell out quickly.
